Acing the 80's Aerobics

April 5, 2019

A group of fluorescent-clad fitness fans spent an hour doing aerobics with the aim of raising funds for PINC Cancer rehabilitation.  The  ”Acing the 80’s Aerobics event”, was organised by Barossa Physiotherapy, to help Barossa locals access vital Cancer Rehabilitation services.  We were expertly led by instructor-extraordinaire, Jane Miller, who channeled her inner-Jane-Fonda and had us easy-stepping and grapevine-ing in a mostly coordinated fashion!

Physiotherapist Melissa Smith is a Certified PINC Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapist, and hopes that by raising money and awareness of the benefits of Cancer Rehabilitation more locals will take up the opportunity to attend the service.

Receiving Cancer Rehabilitation is one of the key recommendations by COSA (Clinical Oncology Society of Australia). There is strong evidence that exercise-based rehabilitation for cancer patients:

  • is both safe and well-tolerated

  • helps ameliorate the side effects of cancer and cancer-related treatments

  • improves Quality of life

  • improves Prognosis

Anyone with a Cancer diagnosis should be able to access timely rehabilitation – it is never too early, or too late, to start and Barossa Physiotherapy would be more than happy to talk to anyone about how they might access the service.  Barossa Area Fundraisers for Cancer (BAFFC) are also generous supporters of the service, and can provide financial assistance to access the service if needed.

We are proud to say that the current total we have raised so far is $383.  If you missed the event, and would like to donate, you can still donate at Everyday hero. Donations via this page stay earmarked for the Barossa region, directly enabling access for Barossa Locals.
